AI is the coming thing

I remember when digital in photography came of age. I went screaming into the then new trend selling, $10,000 worth of equipment and buying only a $1000 worth of the new stuff, because thats what I got for my ten grand! Now a lot of years later, I am glad I did.

Now I am now screaming that AI is not photography and what am I to do? A number of my associates on Fine Art America have gone head over heels into the new trend, creating imagery that the machine is responsible for. And they seem to be selling. Well, there's an old adage that the only thing that is constant is change. Or something like that. So I take one of my photos and ponder.

Not a bad photo which originally had a blue bird sky. I added the clouds from another image and the result is that above. Not AI, just digitally enhanced. Which reminds me of a story I heard about a photographer in Maryland who worked for the Baltimore Sun years ago and had gorgeous images all with a dramatic sky. He was famous for that and made incredible images for the newspaper. This was before the digital age and no one knew what he was doing in the dark room. That is until he passed away and his kids discovered all the sky photos in his files. Slide after slide of just sky images which he had combined with the local shots he took for the paper. He was an initiator!

So I have let the Gremlins loose. The AI gremlins that is. ChatGPT, which I have to admit is kinda cool.

The basic story for this endeavor is historical, which is a pretty good place to start with a lighthouse that was built in 1791. The rock in the middle of the picture and to the right of the tower has a hand written sign stating that that was the site of the shipwreck Annie C. Maguire. History being what it is I put together a request to the Gremlins to give me an image of the lighthouse at night, in a storm with the ship Annie C! This is what they gave me, to which I added another layer of oil paint. Just for fun. Let me know what you think.
